UNPO and Mapuche Show Solidarity for the Political Prisoners on Hunger Strike

Mapuche representatives visit the Chilean Embassy in The Hague to advocate for the Mapuche political prisoners on hunger strike.
The Hague, 7 June 2011 – The UNPO offered its support on Friday June 3, 2011 to the Mapuche activists who in a show of solidarity, sought to protest Chile’s “abuse of due legal process” at the Chilean Embassy in regards to four members of the Mapuche indigenous community. Hector Llaitul, Ramon Llanquileo, Jose Huenuche and Jonathan Huillical are accused of crimes under the Pinochet-era anti-terrorism law, which allows the Chilean prosecution to use tactics such as anonymous witnesses and calls for harsher sentences than would otherwise be allowed.

Woede over goedkeuring omstreden megadam in Amazone

Het Braziliaanse Instituut voor Milieu, IBAMA, heeft het groene licht gegeven voor de bouw van de omstreden Belo Monte-megadam.Ondanks het verzet van inheemse volken, sociale bewegingen en wetenschappers verleende de IBAMA op 1 juni een milieuvergunning aan het Norte Energia consortium waardoor deze een begin kan maken met de bouwwerkzaamheden.

Na twee succesvolle tours in Nederland komt de Mi'kmaq/Mohawk Storyteller Kenneth Little Hawk van 20 mei tot 21 juni naar Nederland. Little Hawk is een meester verhalenverteller. Hij leert ons dat weij allemaal de keuzes kunnen maken om in harmonie met elkaar en met de natuur te leven.

Een fotodocumentaire tenstoonstelling van Jeroen Toirkens over hedendaagse nomadische volkeren, samengesteld door gastcurator Wim van Sinderen (Fotomuseum Den Haag) over Toirkens’ zoektocht naar de laatste nomaden op het noordelijk halfrond.

Het bijbehorende boek Nomad met indringende foto’s die Toirkens tijdens zijn elf reizen maakte is hier te bestellen.
